Fri 21 Apr 23 - Burra to Renmark (Towed 204 km)
11 Deg feeling like 9 Deg this morning, foggy with no wind, then clearing and 22 Deg in Renmark. We left at 0830 and stopped 83km later at Morgan, where we saw the mighty Murray again for the first time since Goolwa near the entrance of the Murray to the sea. Here we also realised the strict fruit and vegetable (fruit fly) restrictions on entry to the Riverland (which includes Morgan and Renmark). We thought the restrictions only concerned entering the region from another state, but at least we realised before too late. Finding clear guidance was difficult, and apparently the locals are also frustrated with the lack of clarity. So our brew stop turned into a 'clean out the fridge, eat lots of fruit, cut and freeze some other fruit and vegetables, and dispose of everything else - except potatoes. pumpkin and onions'. It was an expensive oversight, but it may have been even more expensive if we hadn't realised and done anything about it - I don't want to do the wrong thing anyway. When we arrived in Renmark, we heard car and van checks are done regularly in the area, and yesterday one lemon cost a caravaner $396 (my calculation is that works out at about $7,920.00/kg for lemons). We eventually got away from Morgan, and on the way through Monash, a colourful mural caught our attention so we stopped briefly. It was a CFA Mural, but next door, in front of the Memorial Hall was a monument to celebrate the centenary of Monash, the district being settled by 139 WW1 returned servicemen and 3 war widows in 1921. We set off again and arrived at our destination, the Riverbend Caravan Park 3.5km outside Renmark at 1230, and quickly set up on freshly laid turf surrounded by a massive dirt levee bank. On one side of the bank was a caravan park with little evidence of the recent flooding, apart from the fresh turf and many cabins being repaired, but on the other side was a lot of stagnant water and dead fish. Thankfully, there is no nasty smell and its probably too cool for mosquitoes. After settling in for the afternoon, I went for a leisurely ride into Renmark and along the river bank and back, then settled in for a quiet night watching the NRL match of the day.

| Renmark - Riverbend Caravan Park. Set up for a 3 night stay. A nice big site, a little more expensive than others that we've stayed at, but good to support the area following the floods. They've done a good job to get it back to this point by what I can see around the area. |
