Day 50: Mon 03 Apr 23 - Elliston to Streaky Bay

Mon 03 Apr 23 - Elliston to Streaky Bay (Towed 150 km)

10 Deg overnight, reaching a very warm 33 Deg through the day. The best day of weather this trip; no wind, cloudless and very warm. Bring on more days like it. We drove away from Elliston at 0830, and our first stop was 43km along the  Flinders Highway, and another 7 km along a rough corrugated dirt road to the Tub. The Tub is a large crater 30m deep and 50m across in the cliff with a connecting tunnel to the sea. It's quite amazing. Next stop was 2km back along the same road at the Woolshed - a large cavern carved into the granite cliffs and nearby rock pools. After a good wander around the rocks, we drove 7km back along the dirt road to the Flinders Highway and stopped for a late morning coffee at Port Kenny. Unfortunately, the rest area we stopped at did not look anything like the photo on Wikicamps, which appeared green and lush.  It was rather dry with no shade, but we still enjoyed the caffeine fix. We continued another 25 km, then turned off the highway again, but only 2km along a good sealed bitumen road to Murphy's Haystacks, an amazing ancient wind worn rock formation on privately owned land. $2 donation per person gets you in for a look around these unique boulders which date back more than 100,000 years. After a good walk around in the now very warm sun, we continued on to Streaky Bay, to our caravan park - the Islands Caravan Park about 7km on the other side of town. We checked in and were set up by 1330, then headed back into town to buy some groceries. We returned to the van, had a short walk around the park and along the beach, then had sundowners with Dale and Caroline while we watched the sun set, bringing to end another great day.
