Mon 20 Mar 23 - Wallaroo
17 Deg overnight reaching a very moderate 21 Deg feeling quite fresh throughout the day. The wind didn't let up last night, in fact it got stronger after midnight, gusting to almost 50km/hr at times, so it was a very sleepless night. I don't think the awning was at risk of lifting as it was very well secured, but the loud and annoying sound of the canvas flapping was very unsettling. Eventually the wind became too strong to go out and pull the awning down safely, so at first daylight with a slight drop in wind, we packed everything away (as were many others around us also). Despite the forecast that winds would let up last night, they persisted all day until after dinner tonight. After packing away the awning this morning, I went for long walk along the beach, and it felt much longer walking back into the wind. We had breakfast, and feeling very tired, drove into Kadina, a historic copper mining town, now a major regional service centre for the Yorke Peninsula. There are some lovely old historical buildings and residential homes to be found in Kadina. Unfortunately, we couldn't find the walking trail into the old Wallaroo Mine (in Kadina). We will return tomorrow on the way back from the Moonta mines and township now that I know where the track is. Today was a miserable, windy and cool, and not much fun to be outdoors, so after returning to the van at 1500, Noel turned too in the kitchen to make a lovely batch of Blueberry Muffins, while I had a nap. Noel and I ventured out for a walk along the beach before dinner while it was still very fresh and windy (thankfully blowing offshore), but as soon as we got back into the van, the wind disappeared and we were treated to a lovely sunset, showing signs of a better day tomorrow (red sky at night!).
