Day 30: Tue 14 Mar 23 - Barossa
Tue 14 Mar 23 - Barossa
11 to 27 Deg, slight winds in the afternoon, easing in the evening. Another glorious mostly sunny day in the Barossa, thankful for a little cloud cover at times to take the sting out of the sun. A short walk before breakfast and we were on our way for a 26km drive to Kapunda where we were originally booked for the duration of our visit to the Barossa. We’re glad we ended up staying in Tanunda, but after visiting Kapunda, we would have also been happy to stay a night or two there. Kapunda has a rich history of copper mining which was discovered there in 1842, and later became the base for Sidney Kidman's huge cattle and horse operations. Its grand heritage buildings and abandoned mine workings, and colourful murals are Kapunda's main attractions. Unfortunately the 2.5 hours we had there just wasn’t long enough, some of the museums were also closed. Although we walked along most of the main street, and drove around part of the heritage trail including a walk around the old Kapunda mine workings, we would definitely return to see more of this historical town. On the way back towards Tanunda, we stopped at the small town of Greenoch, another lovely rural town with not much to see, but definitely worth a stop for look around. We continued to Nuriootpa where Noel had a walk along the Main Street while I visited Mitre 10 to find a solution to securing the awning bracket. The solution apparently, is to fill the holes with expanding foam so that the screws have something to bite into. Once the foam has cured, I'll attach the screws then remove them, fill the hole with Sikaflex, then screw the bracket back on. Fingers crossed it works - I’ll keep you posted. We arrived back at the van at 1600, and after applying the expanding foam, I went for a very pleasant ride around Tanunda and out to Nuriootpa again. Back at the van, we had a very tasty Weber cooked BBQ steak for dinner. It was another beautiful evening sitting out under the awning as the sun set without any breeze, ending another full day of discoveries.
