Day 69: Sat 22 Apr 23 - Renmark

Sat 22 Apr 23 - Renmark

6 Deg this morning reaching a lovely 24 throughout the day, no wind and clear sky - just a glorious day. I climbed out of bed this morning and went for a very pleasant walk across the historic Bridge into Paringa, past the Painted silos and the largest 'Black Stump' in Australia, before returning to the van for breakfast. After breakfast, we drove into Renmark to the visitor information centre to plan our activities for tomorrow, then found a cafe for our morning brew in the sun - it was very pleasant. We called into the shopping centre to get a few things, then returned to the van for a quiet afternoon and carried out a few minor repairs. At 1700, we returned to town for a couple of very pleasant evening drinks at the Renmark Club overlooking the Murray as the sun set, then we ventured across the road for dinner which turned out to be very average. A very relaxing day.

Morning Walk - Paringa - Black Stump from a 600 year old Red River Gum, apparently the largest of 11 Black Stumps around Australia.  8m Diameter and weighing 8 tonne, it's a remarkable story about how it was moved to the front of this house from 50km away on the Murray.

Morning Walk - The Historic Paringa Bridge, designed to raise and lower one of the six steel spans to allow river boats  to pass through. It had a single railway track up the middle, now used as a pedestrian path, with road traffic passing up both sides.
