Day 28: Sun 12 Mar 23 - Barossa

 Sun 12 Mar 23 - Barossa

A chilly 9 Deg to 24 Deg by mid afternoon. It was a fantastic day, but it just vanished way too fast. It started with my morning walk, today through the main street of Tanunda, returning for breakfast and then we headed off to the Information Centre in town. I already knew roughly what I wanted to do today, but the lady at the centre was very helpful and offered a few more suggestions. First up was morning coffee in Tanunda before we drove to our first stop on the list - Chateau Tanunda. Despite no wine tasting we probably spent too much time here, wandering around admiring the magnificence of the estate, the gardens and its history. From here we continued the short distance to Mengler Hill which has amazing views across the Barossa Valley, and a very unique collection of sculptures.  We then continued to the Yalumba Winery near Angaston. This is another well established winery with a beautiful building and a lot of history. No wine tasting here and our next stop was in Angaston for lunch and a walk around this lovely historic township. I'm starting to think our three and half days in the Barossa is nowhere long enough. From Angaston, we continued the short distance to the  Saltram Estate - the makers of Pepper Jack, my favourite go-to wine at home. This is another well established winery with a long and interesting history, and here I did partake in wine tasting. We sat outdoors in the warm afternoon sun for two hours while I enjoyed tasting a selection of reds which I hadn't previously tried, with Noeleene waiting patiently. All the wines I tasted were very nice, but three were particularly nice, so nice that when we left I took two of each with me. We arrived back at the van at 1700, and it was such a nice afternoon; I contemplated going for a ride, but my motivation failed me, so I started culling many of the photos I took today, then we enjoyed a quiet night in the van (surprisingly quiet given the number of people staying at the park at the moment).
