Sat 11 Mar 23 - Adelaide to Barossa (Towed 77km)
14 Deg overnight, reaching a lovely 27 Deg by 1400 in the Barossa. Late last night we made a last minute decision to check online if a site had become available at either Tanunda or Nuriootpa in the Barossa rather than having to drive back and forth from Kapunda, 27km away where we had booked a four night stay. The purpose is to spend some time in the Barossa. When looking for a site a few weeks ago, there was nothing available at either Tanunda or Nuriootpa, hence our booking at Kapunda - the next closest option (We subsequently found out it's a long weekend here). As luck would have it last night, it appears there may have been a cancellation and we were able to book a site online for the four days. I called and cancelled the Kapunda booking this morning without and problems. After a leisurely start to the day (it's becoming a bit of a habit), I went for another walk around the show grounds precinct, then we packed a drove away at 1000. Being a Saturday, the city traffic was very kind to us, and we had an easy drive out of the city heading north along the expressway to Tanunda. The site allocated to us though at the Discovery Parks Barossa (Tanunda) was far too small for us, and as the park is almost at capacity, we were worried we may end up having to rebook at Kapunda anyway. But the staff were very accomodating and arranged an alternative very large grassy site at the back of the park secluded from the majority of others - with power and water. It's probably the best site in the park and we're very happy with our little bit of real estate. After setting up and having a bite to eat, Noeleene got busy doing the washing and cleaning the inside of the van, and I didn't want to get in her way, so I got on the bike and went for a very pleasant 20 km ride through Tanunda to Nuriootpa and back. It was a beautiful, warm sunny day, and very relaxing. Despite the large number of visitors at the park, it is also surprisingly quiet tonight. Tomorrow we will start to explore the Barossa, and almost certainly taste a few red wines (well I will at least).
