Thu 09 Mar 23 - Adelaide
12 Deg overnight climbing to 18 Deg by 1300, overcast with some occasional showers in between, then the sky cleared and the temperature eventually climbed to 21 Deg and sunny by 1600. I'm learning that the weather changes very suddenly in South Australia, but we were very pleased the wind stayed away today. We had another slow start, catching a bus into the city at 1000, which took a little longer than expected due to a a traffic accident which closed a main street in the city. A motorcyclist went under a bus, but luckily sustained only a broken leg (as we found out later). First stop on arrival was our morning coffee at another lovely cafe' near the Botanic Garden - we are on a roll with good brews in Adelaide (but we pay a premium). We had a very relaxing and most enjoyable walk through the historic 130 acres of Botanic Garden right in the corner of the Adelaide city centre. There were very few visitors and we had a very pleasant wander for about two and half hours. By 1300 we were feeling peckish, so made our way back to the our new favourite Italian cafe / restaurant in the Adelaide Arcade, unfortunately, lunch didn't quite live up to expectations today, nevertheless, still enjoyable. After lunch, we went separate ways. I wandered around the city a bit more, then along the Torrens river walk stopping to listen to Bob Carr interview Louis Menand - an America professor and history writer. It was a very interesting discussion, and I was disappointed to miss most of it. In fact, I missed almost all of the Writers Week events (as part of the Adelaide Festival) which finished today. Noeleene and I met up again at 1600 for another late coffee, then we caught the bus back home (to the van) where I had a bit of a lay down. Feeling refreshed again, and keen for some more outdoors activity, I made use of the show grounds oval and jogged a couple of kms. A light dinner back in the van and another quiet night night was had. The Showgrounds is turning out to be a very convenient location, well maintained with excellent facilities, and given its central location between main roads, it is surprisingly very quiet. I definitely recommend staying here if ever planning to visit Adelaide with a caravan. The Public transport system is also very efficient and easy to use.
Sorry - Lots of photos today.
