Sat 04 Mar - Port Elliot
Minimum of 11 Deg overnight reaching a much more pleasant 26 Deg with very little wind most of the day. The slightest breeze at times did feel cool when in the shade though. After a morning walk around the headland at Horseshoe Bay and up to the Soldiers Memorial Gardens in Port Elliot, we set off at about 0915 for a 7 hour / 180km drive exploring the southern Fleurieu Peninsula. It was a fantastic day with some incredible scenery, and we could not have chosen a more perfect day of weather. The roads were quite hilly, winding and very narrow in places, but provided many wonderful views. From Port Elliot we drove through Victor Harbour to Cape Jervis where the Kangaroo Island ferry operates from. From there we drove towards Normanville stopping at the memorial for the ex-HMAS Hobart which is sunk of the coast in Yankalilla Bay as a dive wreck. From there we drove to Normanville where we enjoyed lunch in the park in the beautiful warm sun, then continued on to the Myponga Reservoir lookout, and then Myponga and Yankalilla. From Yankalilla we returned via Victor Harbour back home to Port Elliot. After a brew, we went for a walk down to the beach to watch the last of the finishers in an ocean swim event (900m and 1.8km distance). It was such a lovely afternoon that we continued to walk up and around the headland overlooking the Horseshoe Bay with more fantastic views, returning for dinner and an early night to end another fabulous day.
