The week leading up - Fri 3 Feb 23

Fri 3 Feb - Home to Albury (Towed 320km)

When asked where we should travel to on our next trip away in the caravan, Noeleene said without hesitation South Australia. We’ve both only ever had overnight stays in Adelaide and never saw much of the city or elsewhere in the state.  We still also want to travel north to QLD, and possibly the NT, for winter this year, so we decided 10 weeks should be enough in SA to get a feel for it while it’s still warm. We'll return home for a couple of months, then head north again for the winter. We can always stop or visit other places when passing through SA either to or from the NT or WA on future trips. This trip we plan to head south through Victoria to the SA border and follow the coast around to Adelaide, stopping at the major wineries, around the Yorke and Eyre peninsulas and then back to meet with friends at the Flinders Ranges before returning home to Canberra. But, as we have experienced with our other trips, we need to stay flexible. Our preparations for this trip involved bringing the van down to Albury, leaving it with Simply Caravans for a week to do a service and carry out some minor warranty repairs. We had planned to bring it down before Christmas, and staying two nights in a motel while the work was carried out, but I got a cracked windscreen and then rear-ended on the way home from work one day, so I couldn't get the van down before now. With everything now repaired and safe to travel again, we towed the van down from Canberra this morning intending to leave it for a week to do the work, while we return home for a few days, and then we'll come back down next Friday (10th Feb) to collect the van and head off on our trip. Unable to get a refund for the motel that we booked before Christmas while the van repairs were carried out, we decided to stay a couple of nights in Albury this trip before going home on Sunday.

On arrival, we were greeted by more rain and cold weather, not unfamiliar for us when visiting Albury. After dropping off the van, we found a cafe for a late lunch by which time the skies cleared and we had a relaxing afternoon wandering around checking out the historic buildings (well I did, Noeleene went checking out shops), followed by an afternoon nap. We wrapped up the day with tasty wood fired pizzas and a couple of drinks at the Downtown Pizzeria in the Main Street while the rain fell heavily outside. We had a lovely evening, but unfortunately, Noeleene had recently gained an intolerance to seafood, and her pizza had evidently come into contact with seafood and she was sick for a few hours - a disappointing way to end an otherwise enjoyable day.
