Day 12: Fri 24 Feb 23 - Beachport to Robe

Fri 24 Feb - Beachport to Robe (Towed 50 km)

It was a warm and windy night, and still 25 Deg at 0730, reaching 37 Deg in Robe by midday. After a very restless night, I headed out the door for an a 40 min walk before returning for breakfast, then we packed up and drove away from Beachport by 0900. With only 50km to drive we took our time. On arrival in Robe, we parked under the massive Norfolk Pines in the main street, with wind blowing almost 50km hr. We visited the Information Centre to arm ourselves with enough to keep ourselves busy  for the next two days then had morning coffee at a very popular little cafe before making our way to the Robe Holiday Park to check in. What a massive caravan park this is - large grassy sites, with enough room to park the van with the awning out and the car parked beside the awning on our allocated site, and we have a nature reserve behind us too.  The park is divided into several sections, and it doesn't feel crowded. It is also very well protected from the strong winds. Due to the heat and winds, setting up took longer than normal having to secure the awning, fitting the offside shade sail, and ground mat etc). It was also quite hot setting up in the heat of the day. Once done, we had lunch then went for a drive around town to orientate ourselves. When we returned to the van, Noel did crosswords while I jumped on the bike and went exploring and photographing. First impressions of Robe is that it's a nice historical town (much bigger than Beachport), with some beautiful old buildings, in a stunning coastal setting, BUT, a little touristy. My ride took me around a lumpy coastal path which had some wonderful scenery - I also crossed paths with a large brown snake sunning itself. Back to the van for a cleansing ale, a BBQ dinner and a very quiet night.
