Day 11: Thu 23 Feb 23 - Beachport

Thu 23 Feb - Beachport

21 Deg this morning at 0700, reaching 32 Deg by 1000, climbing to 36 Deg by early afternoon. I headed out early to try and catch a snapper, or any kind of fish really, but the only bites I got were from annoying March flies. It was still pleasant to be out early on the beach and rock hopping before the wind and temperature picked up, then I gave up and returned to the van.
Next on the agenda was a walk into town for our morning coffee at the Jetty Cafe' - another good brew. Noel then went on to buy a few victuals while I wandered through the Old Wool and Grain Store Museum in town. The original building, built in 1879, has an eclectic display of old farming, hand tools, firearms, crayfishing and whaling artefacts, and lots of other old stuff from yesteryear.  The old 1900s Chevy Truck was pretty cool. Back to the van we went for lunch, meanwhile the temperature had climbed to 36 Deg, so we flashed up the air conditioner and had a quiet afternoon indoors. At 1600, the temperature and wind dropped enough to head out on the bike for a ride around town and along the waterfront. When I returned we sat outside for a couple of refreshing drinks, then rolled up the awning and ground mat for tomorrow mornings departure. After dinner, we went for a very enjoyable stroll to the boat ramp watching the last of fishing boats return, and along the jetty. It was a relatively quiet day, but very relaxing and nice to be not travelling in the heat and wind that we had today. Tomorrow is a short drive to Robe, another coastal fishing town, for another three night stay.
