Day 1: Mon 13 Feb 23 - Home to Albury to Chiltern

Mon 13 Feb - Home to Albury (326km) to Chiltern (Towed 45km)

14 deg and light drizzle in Canberra to a 29 deg sunny and cloudless day in Albury and Chiltern.
It felt great to be finally on the road at 0815 heading south to Albury to reunite with our van. At about 0930, we stopped for morning coffee at Jugiong - the Long Track Pantry is a regular coffee stop for us when passing by, and the coffee is always good (in a real cup would be better). The RV free camp across the road by the riverside has plenty of open space in a lovely setting, and is still on our list for a future 2-3 night stay. It looked very popular this morning.
Thankfully, we had an uneventful trip to Simply Caravans in Albury where they did a service and resolved all but one of our minor warranty issues. We then continued on to our first night stay at Chiltern,  43 km south of Albury. Chiltern is lovely quant old town from the gold rush era built in the late 1850s. We stopped here for a walk around town when we visited nearby Rutherglen last year, and said we would come back for a stay, and so here we are. Our stay is the Lake Anderson Caravan Park, a neat and tidy park beside Lake Anderson (more of a large Dam really) on the edge of town. After setting up on a drive though site for one night (we didn't unhitch) and set about getting ourselves organised in the van before going for a walk along the lovely old street to buy some victuals. We found a nice old country town butcher which came highly recommended. A nice big juicy thick T-Bone for me and lamb chops for Noeleene, and the verdict - it exceeded both our expectations. We don't eat much red meat, but this was the best tasting meat we've had in a very long time.  After dinner I went out for another stroll through town to check out some of the historical buildings while Noel stayed behind for her MAFs fix.
It's been a long, hot and tiring day, and ready for a good night's sleep.
